The Hungarian section of the Serbian railway was jointly constructed by a subsidiary of China Railway Corporation and its Hungarian counterpart. It is a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Hungary and a flagship project of China-Central and Eastern European countries cooperation. It is also the first successful integration of Chinese railway technology and equipment with the EU's Railway Interoperability Technical Specification (TSI).
The Budapest-Belgrade railway connects Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The Hungarian section, approximately 158.6 kilometers long, connects Budapest and Kleibó, and construction began in 2022. The line is a double-track electrified railway operating for both passenger and freight transport, with a designed maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour.
